My Drugstore Skincare Routine

Hello again!

Today I am sharing with you all a few skincare products I’ve been using recently. Growing up and even into my early 20’s, skincare was never high on my priority list. Quite frankly, it was almost non-existent on my list. I always felt like I was too busy or too tired to fiddle around for 10-15 minutes with it. But, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized the importance of taking care of what I have. 10-15 minutes is such a teeny-tiny fraction of my day so, why shouldn’t I take the time to treat it with the respect that it deserves? Anyways, enough of my rambling already, lets jump on in!

Sheet masks: Oh boy! These have been one of my absolute favorite ways to pamper my skin lately. They’re like a traditional face mask but 10 times easier! I love that you don’t have to mess around with putting on a gooey paste only to spend your “pampering” time washing it off your hands. Then spending a ton of time trying to rinse it all off your face. By the end of that, I feel like I haven’t relaxed at all. With sheet masks you just throw one on your face, kick back, watch a couple YouTube videos then peel it off and you’re done! I’ve been doing one once a week now and I love them! I like to rotate types of masks as well as different brands just to get all the different benefits. This will be my first time trying the SOO AE brand so I am excited to try it!

St. Ive’s Blemish Control Scrub: I use to dread exfoliating my face. I have sensitive skin so exfoliating too much really irritated it and sent my skin into oil production over drive. But, I finally found that if I limit it to once a week instead of every few days, my skin does much, much better with it. Currently I am using this St. Ive’s scrub but I don’t love it. It does the job but I’ve been keeping my eye out for something better and just a tad bit more gentle. If any of you know of something I should try, let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear your suggestions!

Burt’s Bees Radiance Facial Cleanser: I love this stuff!  Its a super light weight, smooth and gentle cleanser with a gel like consistency that my skin loves. It works really well getting all my makeup off and getting down into my pores. I rarely need to use a toner to get all the excess dirt off my face after using this.

Target Brand Toner: I love this stuff too! It works to get any left over dirt off my face without drying it out. Since I started using this I noticed a huge difference in the texture of my skin. My pores are noticeably smaller and the redness in my face has been minimal. I have no idea why I never used a toner before because it truly has become such an essential for me now.

Target Brand Dual- Treatment moisturizer: I don’t love this as much as I wish that I did. I have to use quite a bit of it to fully moisturize my skin. Which, may not be the products fault as I do have pretty dry skin. But I guess my point is that I personally would prefer a heavier duty moisturizer so that I do not have to use as much. However, when I do put on the right amount, it does get the job done so I plan to finish out the bottle and then move on to something else. Again, any recommendations are great!

ToGo Spa Green Tea Eye Masks: I recently watched one of Aspyn Ovard’s YouTube videos where she mentioned these in her subscription box. I was super shocked that they even had such a thing! Knowing how much I love face masks, I really wanted to give these a try so I went on Amazon and purchase a 3 pk. I’ve only gotten to try them once since I just got them this week but so far, I love it! You stick them directly under your eyes and they stick to your skin. They slip down a little bit so I do recommend leaning your head back a little and relaxing but overall, they hold up pretty nicely! I plan on rotating these into my routine a couple times a week so I’m really excited to see if they help with the overall brightness of my under eyes.

That’s all the products I use for now! I can’t wait to start experimenting with new products to replace the ones I’m not totally in love with. And I’m excited and happy to keep using what I do love. I can only hope with all this skincare TLC, I look like Jennifer Aniston when I’m older. Ha ha.

See you all next week!

Purple Smoke

Hi again!

This week I didn’t have a post planned out so I decided to share with you a few practice photos from yesterday. I recently purchased some photo smoke grenades for an engagement shoot I have coming up and have been dying to test them out for weeks! Normally, I am the one behind the camera but because my husband is much more camera shy then I am, found myself in front of the camera this time.  The things you’ll do to get your creative energy out. Ha ha.

They were SO much fun but I don’t recommend doing them on a windy day. Which I knew going into it but like I said, when you have a creative itch, it’s really hard to ignore it. Ha ha.

Up the Mountain we go! | Janurary 14th, 2017

Yesterday we went on a spur of the moment trip up the mountain. Jordan told me he wanted to go up before it snowed which was fine with me because I had stuff to do around the house later. Well, I definitely thought he meant he wanted to beat the snow so we would only be there for a couple hours and only go as far as a couple miles up the mountain. But, turns out he meant he wanted to get up there before it snowed so that he could be in the snow storm. Ha ha oops! We took our time going up the mountain, stopping at small pull outs to check out the scenery and brave the wind. (which was insane by the way! It almost knocked me off a rock! ha ha) Once we got to the top we had lunch at Sawmill restaurant, walked around a couple shops, got their famous fudge and bought a beanie for me to keep my ears warm (that’s what happens when you’re unprepared for a super cold day trip. ha ha)  We ended up staying up there all day waiting for it to snow or “snow chasing” as we started calling it ha ha. Towards the end of the day it did start snowing and though it wasn’t a lot, it was still enough to make the trip worth it. We just had a good time going back and forth from the top, to the shops and to our favorite spots. Snapping photos, people watching, and trying not to slip on ice. ha ha.

 No protein powder, protein pancakes!

I don’t know about you but I can’t stand the taste of protein powder. So I found a super good protein pancake recipe that doesn’t require that nasty chalk-like supplement that turns your pancakes into “elephant hooves” (as my husband calls them. What a character! Ha ha!)

Here’s what you need:

  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 cup oats (doesn’t matter what kind because you’ll be blending them.)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 container (5.3 oz or 2/3 cup if you’re using a bulk size)  of flavored Greek yogurt (I used vanilla but raspberry is also really good!)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • Handful of blueberries or anything else you want inside (optional)

Place all but the optional ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.

Pre-heat your pan on medium heat then pour in your batter to your desired pancake size. Place the optional ingredients inside and let it cook for 2-3 minutes.

Then flip it and continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes

Once your pancakes are done add any other toppings  you want on top. I put strawberries and a maple and agave syrup mix from Trader Joe’s on mine.

And that’s it!! Let me know in the comments if you try this and what kind of toppings and optional ingredients you used!
